The 1st Exam

Earth year: 3013

Earth Day: 101

Planet: Academy

How are the applicants this year?” said a calm low voice. The owner of this voice was completely in shadow except for his hand, which was drumming upon his chair.

Exceptional Master Hawk,” said the other brightly. He looked like a cross between an ant and an octopus.

Excellent, you may go Namfer.”

Namfer left immediately as if scared of what the man would do if he stayed any longer. As he left he thought of the poor applicants that would be killed this year.

Planet: Earth

Siegel, Ava, Rosaharn, and Runeheld, please come”, a frail looking woman said into an intercom. She was standing in the middle of what looked like a living room.

Siegel, a boy who looked no more than 5 or 6 appeared in front of her and said “What?” he asked impatiently, “ I had to stop what I was doing, get on with it.” Siegel actually was 13, born on the 1st in 3000 when, oddly enough, all of his adopted brother and sisters were born

Patience Siegel.” She replied.

Never had any,” he muttered back.

At the far side of the room, a door opened and Rosaharn, who was wearing a coat that covered everything but her eyes, which were covered in black glasses, walked in and said “Yes mother?”

Geez, does any one have any patience around here?” As mother said this, Ava walked in with Runeheld by the same door as Rosaharn had used.

The tests you all took to apply for the academy came back, you all passed.”

YES!” screamed Runeheld enthusiastically.

God, Runeheld, why are you so happy, with how easy that test was there will be millions from the Earth alone,” complained Siegel, “Now, can I go back to my room?”

No you can’t,” said their mom, “You all have to be down at the spaceport in 13 and a half minutes”

Fine,” said Siegel, he looked at his watch, turned the outer ring in a complicated pattern and was teleported with his three siblings to the spaceport.

The spaceport was packed with people when the siblings got there, so they tried to remain rather inconspicuous. This was hard to accomplish because the minute they arrived, a tall man took a knife and stabbed at Siegel. This attack failed miserably. The man ended up knocked out on the ground with his own knife protruding from his shoulder. Siegel had simply dodged the knife, taken it, then stabbed the man. Unfortunately, this caused a small crowd to gather.

So much for keeping a low profile Siegel,” muttered Rosaharn.

Oops, sorry Rosaharn, like I was going to get stabbed, it was reflexive.” Siegel said sarcastically, “Being stabbed isn’-

Ahem,” said a voice emanating from the spaceship interrupting Siegel, “Everyone here will now have to survive an attack by extra terrestrials, and, if you don’t feel like fighting then leave now,” the voice cut off and everyone but the 4 siblings, Alexander, a weird looking kid who was reading a book, and Chris Folinger, who looked like he wanted to kill somebody had left. “Ha, haha, they fell for it. Please enter the spaceship you six.” The voice cut off again.

Once all six had entered the space ship, the door slammed shut behind them and locked. The voice cut in again “Ah yes, did I mention that we can only accept 5 or less so one or more of you will leave here a corpse,” it cut off again.

Chris Folinger cracked his knuckles and said, “If that’s the case then they’re going to have five dead bodies leaving here.”

Hmph,” chuckled Siegel “there’s only going to be one or two,” he paused, gesturing to Alexander, “Depending on him.”

Really? Then dodge this,” with that he leaped towards Siegel ready to cut his head off. His blade swiped air and then he found himself looking at his body as his vision turned blood red and his life ended.

Ava never ceased to be amazed at how well Rosaharn could mentally control the ink. She heard from Siegel once that it was because the ink was alive and something else about coordination. The other weird thing is that it gets harder then diamond and sharper than steel can ever hope to be after it is released from the brush.

Rosaharn, while putting away her paintbrush said, “Worthless trash, wanted for 15 counts of murder, each body was discovered with its head cut off. I just thought he should get a taste of his own medicine,” as she said this the ink came back and was absorbed by the paintbrush.

Ava looked at the kid who had finally put away his book, and she smiled at him, then she said, “If you’re going to cause trouble, then Rosaharn will kill you now, if not, then we’ll happily let you join us.”

Got it,” he replied

What’s your name?” she asked.

He hesitated a second and said, “Alexander, yours?”

I’m Ava, he’s Siegel, she’s Rosaharn, and he’s Runeheld,” as she said this she gestured to those siblings.

When he was done she smiled at him again and then looked back at the body. “Will someone please get rid of that disgusting headless corpse.”

The voice that had been speaking to them turned out to be a businessman for a major company, he smiled at them and said, “You pass.”

Pass what?” asked Ava.

The first exam.”

Oh.”

Siegel said, “How boring is this. Everybody here was weak, and if the whole crop is like this it will be a waste of time.” As he said this he turned and walked out.

Oh no, it will get much harder, every planet has sent someone like you five,” Siegel stopped. “Hopefully not to much though,” said the man, “open wormhole to 2nd exam.”

Planet: Academy

How many dead as of now?” Hawk asked.

1.3 billion, Master Hawk” replied Namfer.

Excellent, Namfer,” replied Hawk.

Planet: Alcatraz

We’re here,” said the man, “Alcatraz, based of off Earth’s own Alcatraz. The only people who end up here are convicted of mass murder, attempted genocide, genocide, and starting galactic wars.”

Finally,” Siegel said and smiled, “it’s starting to get interesting.”
